Earlier this week Stan from a local web design house called with a frustrating problem – since installing Windows XP Service Pack 3 he is now unable to connect to his office computer from home using remote desktop.
After numerous attempts to pinpoint the problem we had a look at what other applications/updates Stan had recently applied to his computer. Stan had also updated his nVidia graphics drivers (release
180.48), after delving further into a possible graphics driver issue we uncovered a problem that nVidia had not resolved before releasing their new drivers.
The fix for the problem is to add an additional key to the registry. Create the following DWORD key
SessionImageSize in
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Memory Management] with a value of
20After applying the registry fix and restarting Stan’s office computer his was able to connect to his office computer using remote desktop, much to his appreciation.
