A customer of ours recently made the step to hosting their own e-mail server but they very concious of the problems caused by spam. The war on SPAM, the scourge of modern day communications, recently had a small victory. An American web hosting firm, that was providing a gateway for many spammers, was shut down. The result of this was a two third reduction in the amount of spam travelling across the internet. However, after a few weeks, the levels of SPAM have almost returned to what it was. Spam wastes businesses time, uses up bandwidth and is a huge risk to online security. It's an arms race.
We provide hosted email security for businesses of all sizes: SaaS (Software as a Service). Hosted e-mail security works by intercepting incoming messages and scanning them before sending them on to your e-mail address or mail server. It cuts out the spam, but even better, it cuts out virus and worms too. None of your bandwidth is wasted by unsolicited mail and you're protected from the evil dark side. Your server isn't wasting its power checking every email message. It’s easy to manage: the service will e-mail you if you have a message in quarantine; just click the button to release genuine messages. Each user also has access to a web based message centre so that they can whitelist/blacklist senders. Our customer is happy, their mail arrives spam free and it is easy to use. In fact we like so much we use it for our own e-mail.
A colleague had a great idea on how to market it as well. We could send out a bulk e-mail with the subject “if you're reading this then you need our spam filter”!
