Bill recently purchased a
Blackberry Storm from Vodafone to use for work email. He set up Blackberry desktop himself and was pretty happy with it for a while. Then he found some drawbacks compared to his previous
Windows Mobile:
- He had to keep the PC switched on
- If he deleted an email on the PC it wasn't deleted on the Blackberry and vice versa
We suggested, instead, we set up "
Blackberry Internet Service" (BIS) connected straight to Bill's Exchange Server. It's quick and easy to setup and we didn't have to install any software. This solved most of the limitations but it wasn't as good as his previous
Windows mobile:
- Although deleting an email on the Blackberry would delete it from his Exchange mailbox, if Bill deleted an email from his Exchange mailbox it wouldn't delete from his Blackberry,
- Bill could only see his Inbox on his Blackberry, not any other folders or subfolders
- Emails don't get delivered instantly: BIS synchronises only every 15 minutes
The only solution to get full functionality is Blackberry Professional. Blackberry now offers this for free for 1 user. We installed it on Bill's Exchange server solving all the previous drawbacks. Bill is now very happy with his Blackberry!
