Over the past couple of months you will have seen blogs from both Niall and Tony talking about apprenticeships and early careers before joining telanova.
In the beginning
For me, my working life started out as a Dental Surgery Assistant. Working in a local dental surgery before the times that practices were fully computerised. Due to wanting to further myself I looked into a traineeship which saw me move to an IT support firm where I would help price up contracts whilst attending college 1 day a week.
Unfortunately, back then pay on these type of schemes was very poor and it wasn’t long before I found myself back in the familiar surroundings of a dental surgery. The surgeries became more updated and I soon found myself helping out with an old Novell and Windows 3.1 based system. This kick-started my passion for getting involved in the nitty-gritty end of computing. For me it wasn’t just about switching them on and using them anymore, but actually taking them apart, putting them back together and fixing issues.
Looking for more of a challenge I moved to a PC supply company, starting in their configuration section putting together customer orders before moving to a better opportunity as a configurator on telecoms order system software. Working along such companies as NTL, BT, BT Openreach and Deutsche Telekom I would take the stock product and configure it to follow the customers own processes. After almost 3 years redundancies put pay to most of us there but I was soon back on the technological rollercoaster. I worked as an IT manager and contractor and then joined telanova.
telanova has seen me move from an in-house techy to helping multiple users across multiple companies. Having started as a 1st line engineer and being the initial voice on the end of the phone I have now moved up to 2nd line dealing with the more in-depth technical problems.
Through telanova I am a member of BNI which has helped my interaction with with clients and given me the ability to feel more confident when talking to them. BNI has also helped improve my sales ability which helps not only acquire new business but to offer support to my existing clients.
After my wife and son, there is only really one thing in my life, football. I currently help run Windsor FC which has almost 50 teams ranging from mens down to under 6’s. At Windsor FC I am responsible for the 1st, reserve and youth team kits, running the club house bar and their website - www.windsorfc.net. I also run the clubs darts team where we have been known to pick up a trophy or two.
