Overview
When a newly independent financial services firm in Maidenhead spun off from its parent accountancy organisation, they reached a critical moment in their journey. To operate successfully as a standalone business, they needed a fully independent and secure IT infrastructure from day one.

The Challenge
Separating from an established parent organisation introduces significant technical and operational challenges. The new business needed to fully disentangle its digital footprint from the legacy infrastructure of the parent firm.
This included separating:
- Domain names and DNS infrastructure
- Email accounts and shared mailboxes
- User identities and authentication systems
- Shared files and collaboration platforms
- Business applications and hardware
All of this needed to happen with minimal disruption to staff and clients. Careful planning, strong communication, and a proactive approach were essential to ensure a seamless transition.
Our Approach
We developed a comprehensive migration strategy covering infrastructure, identity management, collaboration tools, device security, and telephony. Our goal was to deliver a modern, secure, and scalable environment that would support the business from day one.
Infrastructure & Identity
- Migrated multiple domain names to Amazon AWS Route 53 and configured all required DNS records.
- Created a new Microsoft 365 tenant with verified domains.
- Implemented secure email authentication protocols including DKIM, SPF, and DMARC.
- Recreated user accounts, aliases, distribution groups, and shared mailboxes to mirror the previous structure.
Email & Collaboration
- Migrated email, contacts, and calendars for all users.
- Configured Microsoft Teams for structured collaboration.
- Enabled OneDrive folder redirection and synchronised Teams document libraries.
Device & Application Management
- Implemented Microsoft Intune to manage laptops and mobile devices.
- Configured device compliance policies aligned with the Cyber Essentials standard.
- Registered devices with Microsoft Autopilot for streamlined deployment.
- Deployed applications including Microsoft Office, Google Chrome, VLC, Adobe Reader, Intelligent Office, and our remote monitoring tools.
Data Migration
- Migrated personal and shared files from legacy Windows Server 2019 file servers and Google Workspace.
- Transferred data securely into SharePoint and OneDrive.
- Ensured continuity of access and minimal disruption for staff.
Telephony & Communication
- Implemented Microsoft Teams Phone with a continuous block of direct dial numbers.
- Assigned individual numbers to each employee.
- Configured call queues and ring groups for reception and internal teams.
- Implemented Exclaimer for consistent branded email signatures.
Security & Backup
- Configured Conditional Access policies enforcing multi-factor authentication (MFA).
- Implemented protection against adversary-in-the-middle (AiTM) phishing attacks.
- Enabled Microsoft 365 backup using N-Able Cove and tested restore procedures.
- Introduced security awareness training and phishing simulation for employees.
On-Site Installation and Go-Live
- Delivered and installed laptops, docking stations, and peripherals.
- Assisted employees with setting up MFA and enrolling mobile devices.
- Provided hands-on support to ensure every team member was ready to work from day one.
